Supporting Safer Work Environments with Reliable Access Solutions
About Industrial Sulfur Transport
Sulfur is the 10th most abundant element in the universe, accounting for nearly 3% of Earth’s total mass. It plays a crucial role in producing rubbers, detergents, fungicides, plastics, fertilizers, and sulfuric acid, the world’s most widely used chemical.
Globally, approximately 70 million tons of sulfur are produced annually, primarily as a byproduct from petroleum refineries and natural gas plants. The growing demand for sulfur presents molten sulfur transport facilities with unique safety and operational challenges, requiring specialized loading systems and compliance with OSHA sulfur handling safety requirements.
How Is Molten Sulfur Transported?
Molten sulfur transport requires maintaining a specific temperature range to keep the material in liquid form while preventing dangerous vapor buildup. Before transport, sulfur is heated to its melting point of 239°F, and during transit, it must remain between 266°F and 309°F to ensure safe loading and unloading.
If sulfur exceeds 309°F, it can generate sulfur dioxide, a toxic gas that is fatal if inhaled. Additionally, high concentrations of sulfur vapor combined with water vapor can trigger explosions. Since liquid sulfur is highly flammable, sulfur loading platforms and bulk liquid sulfur loading equipment must be designed to mitigate heat exposure risks and protect workers.

What Customers Are Saying
A supplier that can make things happen. SafeRack worked to get it out cross-country, on time, despite bad weather and shortage of employees due to it. Stayed in touch from order to delivery. A supplier that can make things happen.

With SafeRack, you're not just purchasing products, you are partnering with experience that allows for a successful finished project. I knew from the beginning that I needed to have SafeRack gangways… One of our counterpart facilities started with your product and ended up with another (competitor's product). Feedback from our counterparts was that they had made a mistake and should've gone with SafeRack… SafeRack provides full support throughout the process. We found that we were purchasing a high quality product that is supported by qualified individuals within SafeRack's organization. Our sales rep, Travis McCraine, came to our facility to assist with design and application. We learned that SafeRack is not just offering high quality products, rather becomes part of the solution toward finished projects. Very stream lined process…From the first visit to our facility by Travis, to the actual design and implementation of our specific needs. Thanks to the entire staff at SafeRack for their solution toward a successful loading system. With SafeRack, you're not just purchasing products, you are partnering with experience that allows for a successful finished project.

It is an all around great product for the money!!! Our self adjusting stairway was delivered within 5 days just as promised. Our sales rep, Chris Hite, was very helpful. I submitted a drawing to him and he got back with me immediately with the exact product that we were needing. He was also very helpful in getting us through the approval process so that my rack could be expedited. It is an all around great product for the money!!!

Their engineering is second to none. I think SafeRack is an outstanding company that offers an outstanding product at a very competitive price. Their engineering is second to none and they have an outstanding sales and service department. You can count on your order being delivered in the time frame they tell you it will be. I would recommend that any company that is involved in loading tanker trailers to contact them, if for no other reason but safety for your employees, easy access for loading trucks and a time saver. This product is durable and will save you time and money in lost production because of injuries and/or insurance claims.

He was great! It was a very professional experience. My experience was completely positive from the very quick call back after an internet inquiry to getting the right product ordered. Being located in New York City, like other large cities, the cost of installation can be very expensive. With this modular product we are able to use our qualified in-house engineers and get this product installed in a difficult location safely.

My sales rep was Johnny on the spot. Product was delivered quicker than I thought it would get here. I was looking at possibly 6 to 7 weeks. We received it in about 3 weeks. My sales rep was Johnny on the spot. He gave me a couple of follow up calls that helped a lot. We have used SafeRack for some time, and will continue to use SafeRack. The products are better quality, last longer, and for me personally, they look better. I have recommended them to our other terminals, and most have switched over.
