SafeRack’s Single Pedestal Safety Platform, 36″ GX Gangway and YellowGate Safety Swing Gate Installed at Gerdau’s Midlothian Steel Mill

Steel Mill Top Loading Platform With Safety Cage

Steel mills move heavy bulk material on tight schedules, and crews work at height every shift to access tanker trucks. SafeRack’s steel mill top-loading platform with a safety cage provides operators with a stable walking surface, an enclosed fall-protection zone, and a clear path to every hatch without slowing production. Platforms we create are engineered specifically for your truck fleet and throughput.

Our Work at Gerdau’s Midlothian Steel Mill

Gerdau is one of the world’s leading steel manufacturers, producing more than 11.5 million metric tons of raw steel each year. Their Midlothian steel mill required new infrastructure for top-loading trucks that provides fall protection while handling heavy traffic.

SafeRack designed a complete top-loading platform with fall protection for them using our G4 Series 4-Rail Safety Cage, a 36” GX Gangway, and a YellowGate Safety Swing Gate onto a single pedestal platform. The result creates consistent fall protection for workers at each point during the loading process when off the ground.

Features of SafeRack Steel Mill Loading Platforms

SafeRack engineers each steel mill loading platform to remove friction points and reduce fall risks unique to every operation. Features of our approach include:

  • Customizable Gangways: Our Self-Adjusting Stair (SAS) Gangway has an 85-degree working range to adjust to various truck heights, with widths of 24 to 72 inches available to fit your loading requirements
  • Durable Construction: SafeRack’s equipment is built with industrial-grade aluminum that is corrosion-resistant and can withstand years of work in harsh environments
  • Code Compliant: We engineer our loading platforms to meet or exceed OSHA’s fall protection requirements for platforms above four feet and all other relevant regulations
  • Modular Approach: Our access solutions are built with a modular approach, allowing for components to be replaced or adjusted as access requirements change

FAQ

What Height Should a Steel Mill Top-Loading Platform Be?

Platform height is set to the loaded vehicle hatch height. SafeRack engineers measure your fleet and design the platform and gangway travel to match.

Can SafeRack Retrofit an Existing Loading Rack?

Yes. RAMs assess the current structure and integrate new gangways, cages, and access systems without replacing the full platform.

What Industries Use SafeRack Loading Solutions?

SafeRack’s loading solutions are used for truck loading across various facilities beyond steel mills. Examples include bulk chemical distributors, oil and gas companies, mining and mineral facilities, and cement and frac sand manufacturers.

How Long Does Installation Take?

Modular components ship ready to assemble, which shortens on-site work compared to fully welded systems. Our gear can be installed in a matter of hours, not weeks.
