Custom Ladder Platform Improves Valve Access at Gulf Coast Petrochemical Facility

See the full project profile for details.

At a large petrochemical complex along the Gulf Coast, routine maintenance required workers to reach a valve located at the top of a pump system, presenting significant fall hazards without the proper access equipment. The customer needed a way to safely and efficiently perform quarterly valve inspections and adjustments without compromising safety or disrupting surrounding operations.

Challenge: Safe, Repeatable Access in a Confined Industrial Space

The target valve was located in a densely packed area filled with piping and critical equipment. The customer relied on temporary solutions to reach the elevated valve, which increased fall risk and operational inefficiencies. They needed a stable, compliant, and permanent access solution to keep workers safe during scheduled maintenance cycles.

Solution: A Custom ErectaStep Stair System

SafeRack delivered a simple and affordable solution using a custom ErectaStep ladder platform. This OSHA-compliant system has high-visibility yellow rails, slip-resistant treads, and a compact footprint, providing reliable access without interfering with surrounding infrastructure. The modular design allowed the platform to be installed quickly and positioned precisely for optimal reach to the valve handle.

The result was a secure, purpose-built access platform that eliminated the need for ladders or ad-hoc scaffolding in a high-risk environment.

Outcome: Increased Safety and Efficiency

Thanks to the new platform, technicians can safely perform quarterly maintenance without the hazards and delays previously associated with valve access. The installation enhances compliance with OSHA fall protection requirements while reducing downtime and improving overall safety culture within the facility.
